Summer School 2024 - Call for Proposals

The Vienna Doctoral School of Philosophy invites proposals for the fourth edition of its Summer School, to be held in 2024.

General information

The VDP Summer School aims to provide VDP members with a platform for knowledge transfer, academic networking, and philosophical discussion. Early career organizers will gain experience in hosting an international academic event on a topic of their philosophical interest. The VDP will fund the Summer School, covering organizational and travel costs, as well as the fees of 4-5 international and local instructors. Organizers are expected to actively seek additional funding if necessary.

Who can apply?

VDP members (doctoral students, VDP supervisory and non-supervisory faculty). 

Proposal Structure

Interested parties should submit a proposal for the upcoming Summer School, which should not exceed 2-3 pages. The proposal should include the following information:

  • Suggested title(s) for the summer school.
  • A comprehensive description and motivation for the chosen topic.
  • Intended audience(s) (e.g., late master's students, graduate students, postdocs).
  • Proposed dates and duration of the Summer School.
  • The organizing team, including VDP members and faculty (ideally 4 to 5 people).
  • A tentative list of internal and external faculty who will teach at the Summer School.
  • A detailed description of the teaching format, including lectures, workshops, group discussions, and daily activities (a combination is possible).
  • A budget plan (summer schools may charge a fee)

The VDP Steering Committee will review the proposals. Prospective organizers will be notified of the committee's decision a few weeks after the submission deadline.
